“All Out of Love”

Montreal is known for its nightlife. It’s a real artsy town with a huge gay village steeped in LGTB history. French is spoken plentifully which gives the city a nice touch of European charm. Ross and I had escaped the winter doldrums for a respite and, though it was quite cold, we felt the heat of Montreal’s club scene full on. The discos were packed and the Quebecois certainly did not let a little snow stop the party! The strip clubs are notorious there for their rather liberal standards, but we certainly were not prepared for what we encountered. Somehow, the Montrealers have managed to combine the best parts of sleaze with a touch of kitsch performance art. Jean Pierre was the next exotic dancer up on the box. He had a rather outdated ‘80s Flash Dance vibe with a loose fitting shirt hanging over his shoulder. Just then, the first notes to Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” started. Had I died and gone to heaven? This guy did ballet moves mixed with modern dance all while stripping to Air Supply! Could the camp factor have been higher? As his performance ended, he seemed to look me straight in the eye and give me a wink as if to say, “That dance was personally created for you. See you next time, Monsieur!” Montréal c’est magnifique!
