“Fame”

“Fame”
That song takes me back to high school and my short-lived career as a modern dancer.
I was in 10th grade and really thought I had what it took to audition for the school’s premiere dance troupe, Orchesis. The audition required that I choreograph and perform an original dance piece. Somehow, I decided on a Vangelis song that was quite spacey but somehow reminded me of vampires! Well, I had a couple days to think about movement, and, before I knew it, the audition was here! I nervously strutted onto the stage, the music started and away I went, at first, rising from a mimed coffin as vampires do, then diving and jumping,
seeking my blood thirst victim. After about 4 and a half minutes, I fell to the floor in a heap, the nervous sweat and adrenalin completely revealed. I anxiously looked up to see Miss Enders skeptically say, “that was great! Now, do it again…” Of course, I had really no concept of what choreography was and hadn’t actually rehearsed any of the steps. I swiped my dance card after the audition. Energy A, execution D-….oh, well….I can always try the drama department!!! Fame costs. And right here is where you start paying … in sweat.
